of the Mid-Western Regional Council

Welcome to the “Snapshot of Our Heritage” site. This site makes available to the general public the details of nearly 450 heritage items in the Midwestern Regional Council area in an online app. Each item has various details recorded such as heritage statement , photographs, location, period built, style and significance. Items can be searched and viewed on a map.

The easy to use app is designed for phones, tablets and traditional pc’s. It is intended for; Prospective and Land Owners wanting to know the history of a building or item, Tourists and visitors who want to know more about the history of the region, Previous residents and genealogy researchers identifying family connections.

The Mid-Western Regional Council is a local government area in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 3 hours north-west of Sydney. The region was settled in 1821 some 6 years after Cox built the first road across the Blue Mountains. The first town, Mudgee, was officially gazetted in 1838. The discovery of gold in Gulgong in 1870 brought a large influx of settlers into the region and corresponding construction.

Heritage Trails

A great way to discover the unique heritage of the Mid Western Region is just by taking a brief walk around some of the towns. On this site you will find several mobile phone optimised heritage trails. The Trails connect key historic sites and buildings and provide a self guided experience from any phone. The trials utilise GPS to guide you along the path and features audio descriptions as well as photos. These are only a sample of some of the beautifully restored, historic houses and buildings that the region has.
